Looking for your new property on the Costa del Sol, Spain, is a truly exciting prospect, and here at Paradise Marbella, we understand your excitement for the properties for sale in the costa del sol. We know how it goes for those people coming here to invest in one of the much-coveted Marbella town houses for sale; they just can’t wait to move in, but of course the home is going to be relatively empty.
Coming up with renovation or decorating ideas can seem like a big job in itself, but it’s much easier when you know how. Paradise Marbella’s team are here to help with all aspects of setting up your new life, and we have lots of tips on how you can make the most of your new property.
Check out the below tips and insights for the inspiration you seek:
Do your research on local styles and trends
Check out your neighbours’ places to see what’s going on with the décor in their homes. Costa del Sol residents tend to be friendly thanks to the relaxed lifestyle, which is probably one of the main reasons you’re coming!
Create the casa of your dreams with one of these enviable modern-meets-traditional styles, or come up with a plan to decorate one room at a time. It can be fun to pick a different Spanish theme for every room in the house, or to come up with one overarching theme, but with different elements in each room. We love these cool designs on Pinterest – that’s not a bad place to start for ideas!
Cozy casa, humble haven, or hacienda?
Spanish interior design is popular all around the world. Even Americans love a bit of Spanish design, so it’s common for them to hire interior designers to create that all Spanish look.
When it comes to inspiration, we fully endorse Houzz.com; it is a stylish design with ideas for everyone from budding interior designers to home owners wishing to replicate the warm, inviting Spanish styles you can see all over the Costa del Sol. Houzz has a selection of desirable Spanish styles to help you create everything from a gorgeous hacienda to a modern Mediterranean apartment or traditional Spanish bungalow.
Don’t forget the fittings
You’ll need to think about more than just carpet, wallpaper and furniture if you want a truly authentic Spanish vibe. Lots of properties already have traditional fittings in place, which you may or may not want to change up. Regardless, you can make a big impact on your style even by choosing more traditional crockery, cushions and ceramics, for example.
Picture it now: an elegant stone mantel on your lounge fireplace, decorated with Spanish ceramics… quite lovely! Some of the Spanish ceramics are really gorgeous and can add a very authentic feel to your new home.
Don’t be afraid to be bold, either. Rooms with contrasting upholstery designs and colourful patterned rugs are very acceptable here; you can be as creative and experimental as you like!
The finishing touches are everything
Some people just love to take things one step further, and why not, if you want to embrace total authenticity in your Spanish style? Sound good? Well then, giving your property a name could be the next logical step.
Traditions such as this one are still incredibly popular in plenty of Spanish regions. Take Órgiva for example. It’s a Spanish town in the Alpujarra mountains of the Granada province. Órgiva residents put the finishing touches to their homes by making them as unique as possible. They stick with tradition, but they love to create imaginative and almost fantastical impressions by naming their homes creatively. You can expect to see titles such as ‘Los Limones’ or ‘Dragon Land’ adorning the walls of these picturesque buildings.
Outside the homes, no stone is left unturned either. Residents go as far as to decorate the external areas of their homes with as many different types of flowers as possible. They keep everything shiny and clean by washing their doorsteps on a daily basis too – or so rumour has it!
Final tips from the Paradise Marbella team
Perhaps you won’t want to go that far… but we’re just letting you know that there are options! Personally, we don’t think it hurts one bit to have a few of the amazing Rodrigo e Gabriela’s songs drifting through your home on a beautiful summer’s day. You’ll thank us for that tip later… and don’t forget – you heard it here first! Perhaps you’ll invite us round for a slice of tortilla once you’re settled.
