Marbella offers locals, visitors and expats a wealth of experiences, not least of which is culinary magnificence. There are dining experiences to suit every kind of palate here, and it’s one of the reasons Marbella is unwaveringly popular.
Over the last few years, however, people all around the world are becoming more health conscious. Marbella wouldn’t be one to miss out on catering for such a worthy cause, of course… and whatever Marbella does, it does in style. When you combine style with healthy eating, what do you get? Some world-class restaurants, that’s what.
Healthy living is more popular than ever
Marbella’s communities have been leaning toward healthier living in many different ways over the last few years. The wonderful climate facilitates this in a big way; you can always find enthusiastic joggers, cyclists and walkers making their way down the sunny promenades along the coastline.
San Pedro De Alcantara town is also now a well-known health and fitness hub. The beach is teaming with sporty activities, and you can find exercise machines and volleyball games aplenty. The roads here serve as a flat training route for cyclists.
All over Marbella there is a myriad gyms, fitness centres and yoga schools to choose from. Now that we’re slowly edging towards to the summer months, these activities are ramping up a notch. It makes sense that even more healthy cafes and restaurants are popping up to cater for the needs of this city’s health-conscious inhabitants.
Cafes and restaurants are embracing healthy living
Now that many diners in Marbella are prioritising authentic fuel over taste sensation, the cafes and restaurants are stepping up to the plate, so to speak. Fortunately, they’re managing to combine both aspects so you can’t really lose.
One of the first food outlets to bring healthy living to Marbella was Terra Sana. Now you can find various Terra Sana outlets along the coast; these are just the ticket for those who fancy a quick, informal lunch, and it seems that their popularity is unshakable.
If you get down the central town park area, you can find some fantastic healthy restaurants. Organic is the order of the day for so many people, which is probably what inspired Organic With Love (Owl) to open their doors. They’ve been going strong for several years now, thanks to their mouth-watering fresh salads and healthy juices. If you fancy recreating these dishes in your home, you can grab ingredients from their food market on the way out.
Another nearby food joint is Gym Junky, which caters for fitness fanatics in particular. They have a pretty varied menu, but one thing you can guarantee is it won’t hurt your waistline and you’ll get plenty of nutrition.
Next on the list is Mosh Fun Kitchen, which brings a new dining concept to the table. Their game is not only delightful cuisine, but entertainment too. You can sit on their terrace with a few great cocktails here (if you want to take a quick break from ‘healthy’), and the menu is quite something. Check out the ox tail dim sum or a delicious slider, for a start. Don’t forget to book, as this place fills up fast.
Vegan and vegetarian cuisine options
A lot of people feel that healthy living equates to cutting out meat and dairy products. Marbella is onto this, so vegans and vegetarians have an abundance of choices here in the city.
These places don’t compromise on flavour in any way; you can easily find texture-rich, delightfully presented foods all over the city. Gioia restaurant is a great example of creative raw vegan cuisine. It has rave reviews thanks to its plant-based diet and excellent service.
Then there is Garum restaurant, on Marbella’s promenade. It is a beautiful location, with a contemporary and lively atmosphere. There’s a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean, and the restaurant is tastefully decorated. The cuisine here should leave quite the impression; choose from imaginative Scandinavian, Spanish and European vegetarian options that you won’t forget in a hurry.
We will also give Monkey Chef a mention, as they’re also rated extremely highly. This place is for those looking for a quick, healthy vegan bite to eat. You can get gluten-free options, juices and takeaways; including bowls of cereals, legumes and vegetables, salads, snacks, dessert and drinks. It’s only open until 4pm, and you’ll need to make a reservation on Sundays.
If you’re looking for more vegan and vegetarian options, download the Happy Cow app, which lists everything worth mentioning in the area.
